International Women’s Day Commercial Roofing: Honoring the Women Behind the Work

International Women’s Day and National Women in Construction Week are more than calendar dates. They are meaningful reminders of the strength, skill, and leadership women bring to industries like commercial roofing every single day. At Weather Shield Roofing Systems, we have been helping businesses protect their roof investment for over 45 years, and we know firsthand that our success depends on the people behind the scenes and on the front lines who care deeply about doing the job right.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th and National Women in Construction Week from March 1st through 7th, we want to recognize the incredible women who make our commercial roofing services stronger, smarter, and more efficient.

Why Is National Women in Construction Week Important in Commercial Roofing?

Commercial roofing has traditionally been seen as a male dominated field. But that perception is changing. National Women in Construction Week shines a spotlight on the women who are shaping the future of construction, from project managers and estimators to office administrators and industry leaders.

Why does this matter to commercial property managers and building owners?

Because diversity in leadership and operations strengthens every aspect of a roofing company. When you are investing in roof inspections, roof maintenance, emergency roof repair, and long-term roof lifespan planning, you want a team that pays attention to details, communicates clearly, and genuinely cares about your building.

Women across our team help ensure that:

  • Roof inspections are documented thoroughly
  • Communication about roof leaks is clear and timely
  • Preventative roof maintenance plans stay organized
  • Emergency roof repair calls are handled with urgency and care
  • Long term roof damage prevention strategies are tracked and followed through

When your commercial roofing partner values collaboration and service, your building benefits.

How Does International Women’s Day Tie Into the Roofing Industry?

International Women’s Day on March 8th gives us an opportunity to zoom out and recognize the broader impact women have across industries, including commercial roofing.

Roofing is not just about shingles or membranes. It is about protecting assets, preventing roof leaks, extending roof lifespan, and creating roof cost savings through proactive roof maintenance. Behind every successful roof investment protection plan is a team of people coordinating inspections, managing schedules, handling paperwork, supporting technicians, and ensuring clients feel heard.

That is why this celebration matters. It reminds us that commercial roofing is a people driven business.

Recognizing Excellence in our Team

2025 Servant’s Heart Award Winner

Our 2025 Servant’s Heart Award Winner was Kelsey Feddema.

The Servant’s Heart Award stands apart from typical internal recognitions. Our staff nominates every recipient, so each nomination comes directly from teammates who witness that person’s daily impact.

We present this award to an office team member who goes above and beyond to support others. We honor someone who cares deeply, works diligently, and champions the details that make everyone else’s job easier.

Kelsey Feddema embodies these qualities every day.

In commercial roofing, details matter, and Kelsey makes sure nothing slips through the cracks. She consistently supports field crews, project managers, and leadership with care and precision that keep our entire operation running smoothly. Clients may not always see her work, but they absolutely experience the results.

When your roofing partner operates efficiently behind the scenes, you benefit from:

  • Faster response times for emergency roof repair
  • More accurate documentation after roof inspections
  • Clear communication about roof damage prevention
  • Seamless coordination for roof maintenance schedules

That is the ripple effect of servant leadership.

National Women in Roofing Grand Rapids Council

Another exciting milestone worth celebrating this season is the work of Maria Escamilla in founding the Grand Rapids council for the National Women in Roofing Association.

In June 2025, Maria Escamilla helped create the National Women in Roofing Grand Rapids Council with a clear purpose. The goal was to build a strong, supportive community for women in roofing while fostering professional development, mentorship, and industry engagement in the West Michigan area.

That kind of leadership matters.

When women in commercial roofing have access to mentorship and professional development, the entire industry improves. Knowledge is shared. Best practices around roof inspections, roof maintenance, and roof damage prevention are elevated. Standards rise. Clients benefit.

Recently, the National Women in Roofing Grand Rapids Council was honored with the Emerging Excellence Award. This national recognition celebrates outstanding growth, leadership, and impact within the roofing industry.

That recognition is not just symbolic. It represents real progress in building a stronger, more inclusive roofing community here in West Michigan.

Why Should Commercial Property Owners Care About Industry Leadership?

You might be wondering how all of this connects back to your building and your roof.

Here is the truth. When your commercial roofing contractor is involved in industry leadership and professional organizations, it means they are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

It means they care about:

  • Staying current on best practices for extending roof lifespan
  • Improving communication with property managers
  • Enhancing roof investment protection strategies
  • Creating smarter, more efficient roof maintenance programs
  • Elevating safety and professionalism across crews

Organizations like the National Women in Roofing Association help raise the bar across the entire commercial roofing industry. That directly impacts the quality of service you receive.

How Do the Women at Weather Shield Roofing Systems Make a Difference Every Day?

From coordinating roof inspections and tracking service requests to managing billing and supporting our field teams, the women at Weather Shield Roofing Systems play a vital role in delivering consistent, high quality commercial roofing services.

They help ensure that:

  • Roof leaks are addressed quickly and accurately
  • Preventative roof maintenance plans stay on schedule
  • Emergency roof repair requests are documented and dispatched properly
  • Clients receive clear updates about their roof investment
  • Max Life Roof Care programs are managed with precision

In many cases, they are the first voice you hear when you call about a roofing concern. They are the ones organizing schedules during busy storm seasons, reviewing documents to prevent errors, and supporting technicians so that crews can focus on quality workmanship.

In short, they make the business run smoothly.

Why Do We Celebrate This as a Roofing Company?

Because commercial roofing is about more than membranes, coatings, and repairs. It is about people who care about protecting your building and your budget.

When you work with Weather Shield Roofing Systems, you are not just hiring a contractor for roof inspections or emergency roof repair. You are partnering with a team that values service, detail, and long-term roof cost savings.
