James Boelkins: Account Executive

James Boelkins is an account executive at Weather Shield Roofing Systems, where he has built a well-rounded career grounded in project management, client communication, and technical expertise in commercial roofing. A graduate of Calvin University in 2019 with a degree in Business Operations and Environmental Studies, James began his journey with Weather Shield as a summer intern in 2017. He joined the company full-time later that year as an assistant project manager and quickly advanced through roles that deepened his technical knowledge and leadership skills—from overseeing job sites to planning projects and leading customer communications. In December 2022, he stepped into his current role as an account executive.

Outside of work, James is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys sailing competitively in Muskegon, kayaking, mountain biking, running, and golfing—though he humbly admits he’s not the best golfer. He lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he was born and raised, and shares his life with his wife and their beloved cat.

If you’re managing a commercial building and facing a roof issue, one of the first questions you probably have is: How long is this roof project going to take?  Whether you’re dealing with an emergency leak repair or planning a full commercial reroofing project, the timeline matters. You’re coordinating tenants, operations, staff—every day counts.

So let’s break it down simply and honestly.

Why are There Rocks on my Commercial Roof?

Have you ever looked up at a flat commercial roof and thought, “Why are there giant rocks up there?” It’s a common question among property managers and building owners, especially when you’re trying to understand your roofing system or make smart decisions about maintenance and repairs.
